Our Institute

The Institute was established in 1894 as Russia's first towing tank that was located in downtown St.Petersburg on the New Holland Island. A.N.Krylov was appointed the Superintendent of the Towing Tank in 1900, and the Institute was named after him in 1944. Construction of the present Institute complex was commenced in 1936 on the South outskirts of Leningrad.

The State Unitary Enterprise "Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute" is the largest shipbuilding research centre in Russia and ensures design and construction of naval ships, commercial vessels and other marine structures complying with international standards.

Along with traditional research divisions, since 1999 the Institute has incorporated:

     The Central Ship Design Bureau "Baltsudoproject" whose designs have served to build over 2,600 naval and commercial ships of about 12,000,000 t total displacement.

     The Central Research Institute "Lot", the principal shipbuilding institution in charge of standardisation and naval and commercial ship equipment database management.
