Ukraine intends to astonish the world with its newest anti sub corvette Lugansk of the project Sokol
20.02.2006 17:48

This piece of news was brought in the beginning of the week by the IA KorrespondentNet. It referred to certain Grigory Klebanov, the head of the state owned shipyard More, which designed the project. Allegedly the manager said that the technical documents are completely ready, the construction is delayed due to lack of financing. 50m long and 10m wide Lugansk is the world’s largest hydrofoil ship which today has no matches. The ship has three gas turbines, 1x10 000h.p. and 2x 20 000h.p., which ensure the speed of 60 knots. The ship has also the largest titan alloy made wings, which can ensure safe sailing on the 4 grades waves. Lugansk is armed with the automatic artillery system AK-176 (76,2 ìì), automatic 6-barrel artillery unit AK630M, two four tubes 400mm torpedo launchers, automated fire control and target locating systems, two portable air defense systems and automated fire control and target locating systems for anti sub arms. In a couple of days Ukrainian shipyard More itself denied the information released earlier this week by the information agencies regarding the alleged construction of the “super corvette”. The administration of the shipyard, which was claimed as the constructor of the ships, informed that Grigory Klebanov, who was mentioned by the media as general director of More, is in fact the director of a daughter company and has nothing to do with the shipbuilding projects of the shipyard. More informed that the corvette with the same name was built 10 years ago. According to the safety department of the shipyard, the shipyard “is not in its best time and has no construction of this scale at the moment”. The information that came from the above mentioned Mr. Klebanov was that the “corvette is practically ready, but the construction is suspended due to the shortage of financing”. Some years ago Ukrainian media informed that “Lugansk” was supposed to be commissioned with the Ukrainian Navy in 2003, the 12th anniversary of the independent Ukrainian Navy. However, the corrected information confirms the unique characteristics of the project Sokol. A new shade of information is that it has one match – the ship called “Rossiya”.
