Rotating-Arm Basin

Technology of Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute

This facility is intended for experimental determination of naval and commercial ship hull hydrodynamic characteristics associated with curvilinear motion, as well as for evaluating hydrodynamic characteristics of steering and other control devices.

Basin dimensions:

  • diameter - 70 m,
  • depth - 6,7 m.

Models can be towed with linear speeds from 0,3 to 50 m/s with the help of two rotating arm systems available in the Basin:

  • the arm with a manned cabin travelling along the arm: up to 15 m/s;
  • the unmanned streamlined arm with fixed seats for models: up to 50 m/s.

The Basin is equipped with facilities required for determining hydrodynamic characteristics of all types of ships, towed systems and special-purpose vehicles, as well as for physical modelling of their behaviour under any principal service conditions.
